Millions Lost on Uljanik’s Cancelled Ships

ZAGREB, September 5, 2018 – Economy Minister Darko Horvat said on Tuesday that the Uljanik shipbuilding group’s obligations for four ships that have been cancelled amounted to about 30 million euro, while the government’s obligations for two ships were about 28 million euro.

Speaking to reporters ahead of a meeting of the leadership of the ruling HDZ party in Karlovac, Horvat said that the government was trying to ensure the completion and delivery of the two ships, while the Uljanik Group would have to repay 5 million euro obtained as guarantees for the two other ships.

Uljanik said on Monday that contracts for the construction of four ships had been terminated by the client.

Asked about the blockade of Uljanik’s account, Horvat said he did not know who blocked it, but that he was sure that it was not the state-owned HEP power company.

The Uljanik Group said on Tuesday that among the ships that were cancelled by the client is one that is 70 percent finished and that talks are under way with the owner to find a solution, while three other projects are at an early stage of construction and will not considerably affect the restructuring programme.
