August the 3rd, 2023 – A brand new Orbico logistics-distribution centre is currently being constructed in Zdencina, and new job opportunities are on the horizon as a result.
As Suzana Varosanec/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the new Orbico logistics-distribution centre, which is otherwise largest European distributor of consumer goods, is being rapidly built in the economic zone of Zdencina. With the close cooperation of investors and partners in this large project of Logexpert, which is the developer, new employment opportunities are expected.
700 new jobs
Specifically speaking, about 300 people will need to be employed in the new Orbico logistics-distribution centre, and in the entire region, about 700 new jobs will come from this. The project is being implemented in two phases.
Phase one and two
In the first phase, which is expected to be completed in March 2024, the construction of 42,000 square metres of building is planned, while the second phase foresees plans for an additional 20,000 square metres of state-of-the-art warehouse space to be built, with various possibilities for storing goods in ambient and temperature-controlled conditions.
A breakthrough in business
This is a new step of enormous business significance for the development of Orbico and its logistics, as well as the entire business. Owner Branko Roglić pointed this out recently in the presence of about 60 guests, including representatives of local authorities, the embassies of Slovenia and Bulgaria, business partners and employees.
“The new Orbico logistics-distribution centre will enable us to provide better 3PL (third-party logistics) services to our existing and new partners. In addition, it will be our largest and most modern logistics centre of all that we have in 20 countries,” said Roglić, noting that slightly smaller logistics centres in the Orbico system have been opened in Poland and Bulgaria in recent years. He expects this brand new one to be the bearer of yet more development and innovation, just like the previous ones have been.
Robotic systems
According to Roglić, in the first phase, the new Orbico logistics-distribution centre will be equipped with a fully automated shuttle system for servicing B2B and B2C customers, and in later phases, this will be done with the use of fully autonomous robotic systems that will help their employees to do their work easier, more rapidly and more precisely. “About three hundred people will work in this new centre. The location was chosen based on the assumptions of the economy, productivity and profitability of the business,” said Roglić.
Logexpert
The company Logexpert, as part of the Zdencina Logistic Park, plans to construct three buildings which will span a total area of 110,000 square meters. All of it will be carried out in strict accordance with the latest standards in construction and environmental protection. Solar panels will be installed on all of the future buildings, which will produce a total of 7 megawatts of green energy.
As the owner of Logexpert Gabriel Bitea explained, the tenants will be well-known Croatian and international companies dealing with logistics and storage. “On the future platform, we expect around 700 new jobs to be created within the region,” said Bitea.
Local support
The project is being implemented in an atmosphere of support from the local community, the Municipality of Klinča Selo and Zagreb County, where there are around 30 entrepreneurial zones in which the county has invested around seven million euros so far. Deputy Prefect Ervin Kolarec emphasised the county’s ongoing support for that project, as well as for investments that position Zagreb County as a desirable investment destination.
The new Orbico logistics-distribution centre will be put into the function of optimising operations through the reduction of the company’s costs, since six billion euros in total revenue is planned at the group level by 2028, twice as much as today.
