September the 12th, 2023 – The state of Croatian shipbuilding might be attracting a lot of negative press recently, but there’s some excellent news for the Pula Tehnomont shipyard.
As Poslovni Dnevnik/Suzana Varosanec writes, with these new contracts, the Pula Tehnomont shipyard has successfully completed its order book for shipbuilding, thus ensuring the full employment of its capacities for the next year.
This was confirmed for the media recently by the President of the Management Board, Gordana Deranja, who is also the director of the Pula shipyard where new ships will be built for Norwegian clients. One of those clients is Moen Marin AS from Trondheim, otherwise a long-term partner of of this Pula shipyard.
Construction is set for the beginning of next year
Their cooperation started almost an entire decade ago and during that period, a series of personalised vessels for fish farms were constructed in Pula for the Norwegians. The new, tenth construction contract for this client comes as a confirmation of mutually important cooperation, but it is also interesting in many ways. On the one hand, with the newly contracted work, the Pula Tehnomont shipyard will build the third vessel with a hybrid drive, and it will be the second consecutive one ordered by Moen Marin.
The first of its kind was launched from their slipway back in 2019. Just two years later, they delivered a second hybrid vessel for the Brijuni Islands. Thus, with this new job, the Pula Tehnomont shipyard has definitely confirmed its position as a leader in the Republic of Croatia in the production of larger hybrid vessels.
The new contract with the Norwegians defines the construction of a hybrid service vessel spanning a length of 26 metres and a width of 12.4 metres for fish farms, with a speed of 12 knots. The vessel will be equipped with 3 MWh batteries.
The start of construction is planned for the first months of 2024, and this will be preceded by the preparation of documentation, which foresees the construction period being eighteen months from the signing of the contract.
“Moen Marin AS, otherwise our long-term partner, decided on a new look for a hybrid vessel. The design and projection phase is currently underway, which will define the new design of their ships. We expect to start construction in February or March next year,” revealed Deranja.
That isn’t where the good news ends, either, as this Pula shipyard is about to conclude another new contract for a Norwegian company whose name cannot be revealed at this moment in time. Discussions are being conducted exclusively on the individual items of the contract, while the technical characteristics have already been agreed upon. In short, it is a catamaran which will be 24 metres long and 13 metres wide.
An 18 million euro price tag for both vessels
The total value of these two ships stands at eighteen million euros, and the construction of the catamaran will start by the end of this year. “The project documentation has already been drawn up and after the signing of the contract, within a month or two, we’ll be planning activities related to the procurement of materials,” it was revealed from the shipyard.
