Uber to Expand to More Croatian Cities?

Total Croatia News

Currently, Uber is present only in Zagreb.

Uber is considering introducing additional services in Croatia which already exist in other countries. The ride-hailing service is also planning to spread its activities to other cities in the country, according to its leaders in Croatia, reports tportal.hr on April 2, 2016.

Davor Tremac, Uber general manager in Croatia, and Filip Šturman, Uber’s marketing director, gave a lecture at a start-up event hosted by CoreHub, in partnership with Croatia’s Business Angels’ Network CRANE, where they spoke about their company’s operations. Tremac explained that Uber functions like a start-up in every country where it is present.

It brings together a team of people who self-start the product, it finds the first driver and the first customer, and determines the rates and communication towards the market and the target groups. Uber, as a global company, provides them with funds, the application itself, as well as administrative and legal support, while the rest of the business is fully autonomous and locally-oriented.

The Uber team in Croatia consists of three employed persons, while the drivers themselves are not considered employees. They are partners who use the Uber app to find clients.

Uber launched its activities in Zagreb last year in October. The famous ride-hailing service presented itself on the Croatian market with the UberX feature which includes only licensed drivers, who come to pick up customers only minutes after the ride is ordered via the Uber app.

Uber’s “international launcher” Loic Amadohas said before Uber started operating in Croatia that they are naturally thinking about including other cities in Croatia as well, but he also emphasized that the cities themselves choose Uber and not the other way around. “The more people download the app in a certain city, the faster we will appear on that specific market”, he added.

In the first week after Uber launched its services in Zagreb, according to Amado, 7,000 people had installed the app on their phones. That is one thousand people per day and it is an excellent result, he said.
