ZAGREB, February 9, 2018 – Some 195,400 Croatian citizens were out of work at the end of January 2018, which was 20% or 48,734 persons fewer than at the end of January 2017, but the number of the jobless rose by 4.3% or 8,037 people compared to December 2017, the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) stated on Friday.
According to the HZZ, a total of 26,959 vacancies were advertised via the HZZ on 9 February.
Throughout January, 28,479 new entries were added to the list of unemployed people, and this influx was 2.7% higher than in January 2017. On the other hand, 20,442 entries were erased, which was 1.1% more than in January 2017.
Of the 20,442 individuals removed from the unemployment records, 11,534 found work last month.
Broken down by economic sector, 1,868 (17.8%) were employed in the manufacturing industry, whereas 1,469 (14%) found work in commerce, 1,399 (13.3%) in education and 1,308 (12.5%) in the hospitality sector.
Broken down by county, the largest number of the newly employed, 1,472 (14% of the total newly employed), found work in Split-Dalmatia County, 1,264 (12%) in the City of Zagreb and 1,099 (10.5%) in Osijek County.
