In 2018, Valamar Riviera, the major player in the Croatian tourism industry, will increase the wages of its employees by 11.5 percent, with a focus on increasing wages of basic professions. The move has been agreed with the Croatian Tourism and Service Union (STUH) and the Union of Istria, Kvarner and Dalmatia (SIKD), reports Poslovni.hr on February 19, 2018.
According to the agreement with the social partners, the basic salary will be increased by four percent, while the 7.5 percent share of the total wage bill will be additionally invested in the increase of earnings of basic professions, such as cooks, waiters, housemaids, receptionists, and others.
The increase in the coefficients for nearly 50 key jobs in operational part of the business and the increase of the base salary of two percent will be implemented starting on 1 June, while an additional two percent raise will come into force starting from 1 December and will include all employees. This correction of earnings for basic professions will include approximately 4,000 employees, which means that, in 2018, Valamar will be able to guarantee net earnings of at least 5,000 to 7,500 kuna per month for its employees.
In this way, Valamar Riviera will invest more than 20 million kuna in increasing the salaries of all employees with a focus on core occupations, with about 30 percent of the investment being represented by tax breaks, while the rest are direct investments in increasing the rights of workers.
In addition to a significant increase in net income, seasonal workers who come from all parts of Croatia to work at Valamar’s destinations will be provided with high-quality accommodation and three meals a day at the expense of the employer. Valamar will open the fourth hotel for employees this season. It will be named Valamar House; the company invested as much as 60 million kuna in the last two years in the project. In Valamar House, seasonal workers will be able to enjoy newly-renovated rooms and apartments with en suite bathrooms, common areas for rest and socializing, as well as numerous other amenities.
In 2018, Valamar Riviera will employ 6,600 employees from Istria and Kvarner to Dubrovnik. In 2018, Valamar will offer 1,200 contracts for permanent seasonal workers under the Valamar +3 programme, and additional 400 new permanent employment contracts.
