Istrian hotel group donating to dolphin conservation.
As part of its corporate social responsibility program, Valamar Riviera tourist company has donated 30,000 kuna to “Blue World – Institute for Research and Conservation of Sea” from Veli Lošinj. The grant has been provided through the meetINblue initiative which has a primary goal of improving the conservation of biodiversity in the Adriatic Sea and the protection of dolphins. This is the fourth year in a row that Valamar Riviera has given financial support to the institution, reports Novilist on December 13, 2015.
The Blue World Institute has three programs – scientific research, education and protection – and has been carrying out several important projects aimed at gathering information about the life of endangered marine species – primarily marine mammals and sea turtles. From its inception, the dolphin protection project has become one of the best examples in the world of successful integration of scientific research with practical conservation of endangered species and their habitat. The success of the program has been confirmed by the representatives of Valamar Riviera as well.
“We are pleased that Valamar Riviera has recognized the advantages of the meetINblue project and that we have had their support for our activities for the fourth consecutive year. We consider this as a confirmation of the quality and value of our project and its genuine contribution to raising the public awareness about the protection of dolphins and the preservation of the Adriatic Sea”, said Andrea Borić, head of the Lošinj Marine Education Centre.
“The accountability to stakeholders and the communities in which we operate is one of the fundamental principles of Valamar and its basis for long-term business success. It is very important to maintain the quality of the environment, sea and coastal areas, and to improve the use of renewable energy sources as a priority for long-term protection of natural beauties and resources which are essential prerequisites for tourism. Therefore, we give incentives to a number of projects which contribute to the systematic conservation of natural resources and care for the communities in which we operate”, said Deana Stipanović, head of corporate affairs of Valamar Riviera.
