July the 13th, 2024 – With preparations having already begun, Rimac will begin with the actual construction of the future Verne robotaxi factory in Lučko at the end of summer.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, in cooperation with VGP, Rimac’s Verne is set to begin with the construction of a factory for the large-scale production of autonomous electric vehicles. That future factory will be located very close to Zagreb, in Lučko. It will be part of VGP Park Zagreb.
The future Verne robotaxi production plant will be constructed by the Belgian company VGP. This is significant for the company as this is its first ever investment in Croatia. VGP is otherwise a provider of logistics real estate and light industry real estate. All of the future Verne robotaxi vehicles will be produced right here in Croatia.
Preparations for construction have already begun, and construction work is expected to begin at the end of summer. The Verne robotaxi factory will be completed and equipped throughout 2025, while the work on the cars themselves will start in early 2026.
the future verne robotaxi factory will produce up to 10,000 cars annually
The head of Verne, Marko Pejković, pointed out that several hundred vehicles will be produced at the very beginning, and after that the factory will be able to produce up to 10,000 vehicles per year.
“The volume of production will increase as time goes on, following the dynamics of the project. The construction of this plant for large-scale production represents a key step for our project, as well as for the entire country. We’re going to create numerous high-quality jobs and thus attract and retain the workforce in Croatia”, he pointed out.
The future Verne robotaxi factory will use advanced technology for the production, assembly and testing of their autonomous vehicles. The Verne vehicle is, they claimed, a fully autonomous electric vehicle built on a new platform that is fully adapted to autonomous driving. The vehicle is the size of a Golf, with a battery sufficient for fourteen hours of driving.
