July the 16th, 2025 – Croatia Airlines has been renewing its fleet and now has some ambitious plans for its winter flights for 2025.
As Poslovni Dnevnik/Sinisa Malus writes, Croatia Airlines is upgrading its seasonal flights from Zagreb to Barcelona and Berlin to year-round flights, while flights to Stockholm, as well as the Split-Istanbul route, will be extended for part of the winter season.
While the above is exciting news, the domestic carrier is also planning to suspend flights from Dubrovnik to Frankfurt for a limited period. This rather unwelcome development is in line with Croatia Airlines’ plans to reduce seasonality from its hub. As for Croatia Airlines and its plans for winter flights in 2025, the Star Alliance member will maintain its flights to Barcelona and Berlin during the upcoming winter season. That starts on October the 26th and will kick off with three weekly flights to each destination, according to a report from Ex-Yu Aviation News.
Croatia Airlines winter flights between Zagreb and Stockholm in 2025 will also operate three times a week throughout the months of November and December, more specifically until January the 9th, 2026. Meanwhile, flights between Split and Istanbul will be extended until November the 30th, then resume for the Christmas and New Year holidays from December the 21st to January the 11th. Following that, the route is scheduled to resume on March the 5th, 2026, operating three times a week during the winter period.
In order to accommodate the growth of its network, Croatia Airlines will reduce the frequency of its winter flights in 2025 on the domestic Zagreb-Dubrovnik route from 22 to 20 weekly flights. In addition, the carrier will suspend its Dubrovnik-Frankfurt route from January the 11th to March the 8th, 2026. This move coincides with the plans of Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines to upgrade its summer seasonal route between the two cities to year-round operations. For now, the rest of Croatia Airlines’ network remains unchanged in relation to the winter flight schedule of 2024/2025.
It’s worth recalling that Croatia Airlines welcomed its fifth new Airbus A220 aircraft in Zagreb a few weeks ago, with a capacity of 149 seats. The latest aircraft has the registration number 9A-CAN and has been named after the eastern Croatian city of Osijek. Like all previous new aircraft used to renew the existing fleet, it arrived directly from the Airbus factory in Mirabel, Canada. Also about one month ago, the fourth Airbus arrived, bearing the registration number 9A-CAM and named after the city of Rijeka.
The five new aircraft will also fly on new seasonal routes from Zagreb to Hamburg, Bucharest, Milan, Madrid and Prague, all of which are being introduced next week.
Two more new A220 aircraft are expected to be delivered by the end of this year. The entire Croatia Airlines fleet renewal project is expected to be completed in 2027. By that time, Croatia Airlines’ fleet should boast a total of 15 new A220 aircraft, of which 13 will be A220-300s and two A220-100s.
