September the 19th, 2026 – Will Croatia have enough energy capacities for both the general public and for the economy as consumption increases?
Experts keep on emphasising that without a stronger electricity grid and larger energy storage capacities it will not be possible to keep up with the growth in consumption. The question in many minds now is whether or not Croatia will have enough energy capacities for the economy, the public and new industry, and at competitive prices? Poslovni reports that this was one of the key questions at the ENERGREEN – Energy Security of Croatia 2027 conference.
The focus was primarily placed on the security of gas supply, the LNG terminal on Krk and the Okoli storage facility, as well as the accelerated development of solar and wind power plants, as reported by HRT. Experts emphasise that without a stronger electricity grid and larger energy storage capacities it will not be possible to keep up with the growth in consumption. When it comes to heating, people have no reason to worry. “Croatia has a relatively good energy situation due to its geostrategic position, and the country is home to an LNG terminal, storage, and good transport infrastructure, which means that we will always have enough gas, because now we’re no longer last in line but first,” explained Dalibor Pudić, president of the Croatian Professional Gas Association.
“As you’ve already seen, the 11th package of measures has also been adopted. The government is very much continuing to protect the general public and the concrete economy; in addition, there is also supply stability through certain measures, limiting retail fuel prices, and supply stability is also ensured through the filling of gas storage facilities,” concluded Željko Krevzelj, director of the Energy Directorate at the Ministry of the Economy.
