While some enjoy the hop beverage, to others wine is everything. Red, white, drunk all over the world, but in some countries more than in others. Which countries are champions in wine consumption, find out from the article published by Dnevnik.hr on July 7, 2016.
According to a study carried out by the Wine Institute, Croats are in third place in the world in wine consumption per capita. The average resident sips on 44.2 litres of wine per year, trumped only by Andorra (46.26 litres) and the Vatican with 54.26 litres.
Neighbouring Slovenia is also high, right behind Croatia, while others nearby are not in top 15. French, famous for their wines are in fifth place, while Italians, known for their hedonism and superior cuisine, are only in tenth place.
What is interesting and evident is the fact the wine consumption is part of European culture, considering only one nation beyond the Old Continent is in the top 15 – Uruguay.
Also, wine consumption doesn’t have much to do with standards, as the list also holds Moldavia and Macedonia, while Americans consume just over 10 litres per year.
