September the 26th, 2025 – Croatia has chosen to withhold its recognition of Palestine despite powerful European countries like the UK and France having recently done so.

As Morski writes, the Croatian Parliament has voted on the recognition of the state of Palestine. 121 MPs voted, 44 were in favour, 4 abstained and 73 were against recognising it. 56 MPs sent a joint letter to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in which they urged him to recognise the state of Palestine as soon as possible and to suspend arms exports to Israel, 24sata reports.

In the letter, they pointed out that for Croatia, the formal recognition of Palestine would be an important symbolic act and confirmation of its staunch commitment to the two-state solution, which the international community has been advocating for years as a path towards lasting peace in the Middle East.

The letter was signed by all MPs from SDP (36), Možemo! (10) and IDS (2). SDSS MPs Dragana Jeckov and Anja Šimpraga, Anka Mrak Taritaš (GLAS), Dalija Orešković (DOSIP) and Marijana Puljak (Centar) also signed. Among the signatories are Krešimir Beljak (HSS), Dubravko Bilić (Nezavisna platforma Sjever/Independent Platform North) and Miro Bulj (Most).

“We’d like to call on all representatives to support our proposals and force the Croatian Government to take decisive steps to contribute to stopping the genocide, a ceasefire and the passage of humanitarian aid to Gaza,” announced Možemo!

During the vote, a pro-Palestinian protest was held in front of the Croatian Parliament. Pro-Palestinian protests are taking place across entire world, but it is obvious that there is still no political climate in Croatia in which Palestine would receive its proper and formal recognition.
