June the 1st, 2023 – If you’re currently here in the capital, you might have just heard an extremely loud bang. If you’ve lived here a while, you’ll have heard it more than once – the Zagreb sound barrier was broken this afternoon as part of the regular activities of the Croatian Air Force.

The zagreb sound barrier is broken again

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, at around quarter to one this afternoon, an extremely loud bang was heard booming over the city as the Croatian Air Force breaks the sound barrier. This is a somewhat common occurrence and most people will have heard it before.

Pilots of the Croatian Air Force will conduct their regular flight activities on Thursday and Friday, from 10:00 to 16:00, during which the sound barrier can be expected to be broken, the Ministry of Defence recently announced in their press release on the matter.

The test flight (during which the breaking of the sound barrier is expected) is planned in multiple areas of the continental part of the country. These areas span Zagreb County, Bjelovar-Bilogora County, Koprivnica-Krizevci County, Pozega-Slavonia County, Osijek-Baranja County, and Virovitica-Podravina Country. The aircraft will be at an altitude of 10,000 to 14,000 metres, with all of the stringent safety measures being carefully observed.

During these activities and as the sound barrier is broken, short-term increased levels of noise are expected, and people have been asked for their patience and understanding as a result. Most of the residents of Zagreb are familiar with the breaking of the sound barrier, despite the surprise it always causes – particularly to unsuspecting cats and dogs.

The Croatian Air Force otherwise conducts all of its regular activities in the areas of the prescribed flight zones in accordance with the current regulations and rules governing the use of airspace in the Republic of Croatia.
