Beer and food pairing events come to Istria.
Is Pula pulling into the lead on the Croatian beer scene? The Pula Beer Club has organized the first (at least as known to us so far) beer and food pairing evening in Istria.
The evening, starting at 8pm on December 30th, 2015, will feature five food courses from Chef Deniz Zembo, matched with beers chosen by Marko Ožegović. Looking at the list, this promises to be a most interesting and enlightening event.
Menu:
Sour – Chef’s surprise appetiser
Lager – Istrian krafi stuffed with local sausage
(krafi is an Istrian specialty, like a cross between ravioli and potstickers)
Stout – Salmon in coffee and chocolate reduction
Trappist Ale – Boškarin Ragout (Boškarin is a special Istrian cattle breed)
IPA – Wiennese cake with white chocolate and passion fruit
Deniz Zembo is owner and executive chef of the famous Le Mandrač restaurant in Volosko, near Opatija, and also founder of the Hotel Amfiteatar in Pula. Marko Ožegović is a Ratebeer.com administrator, beer judge, and one of the people most knowledgeable about the beer scene in Croatia.
