September the 28th, 2024 – Croatian PM Andrej Plenković is spending time across the pond. He has met with some successful Croatian entrepreneurs in California who see Croatia’s improvements and faults.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, successful Croatian entrepreneurs in California are in a position to make Croatia more visible to the business community over in the USA. Along with being satisfied with the way Croatia is looking today, they also suggest certain improvements. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković mentioned this and more on Thursday, concluding his visit to Los Angeles.
Prime Minister Plenković is on a multi-day visit to the USA, where he spoke at the UN General Assembly on Friday. In addition, he had numerous meetings with the Croatian community, stressing that Croats outside of Croatia are an important priority for the government. He also said that the “general unity of those in the homeland and those outside of Croatia”, is a “constant determinant of government policy”.
“Today we had a meeting with twenty very successful Croatian entrepreneurs in California who are very well positioned in the business world not only in California but in the USA. We talked about the possibilities in Croatia after the achievement of all of the country’s strategic goals, where we only have membership in the OECD yet to tick off. With an A credit rating, great economic growth, high employment and investment opportunities in Croatia, and they’re all here in a position to tell that story about Croatia and make it visible to successful people, companies and the wider business community in the USA,” said the Prime Minister.
He said that Croatian entrepreneurs in California are satisfied with the way Croatia looks today, but they also suggest “certain changes” to make things better.
“They’re satisfied with how Croatia is doing today, but they did suggest certain changes, both in terms of administrative barriers and in terms of facilitating the entire business process and investment in Croatia. That’s why the feedback we received was very useful,” he said.
The total economic exchange between Croatia and the USA now amounts to 1.8 billion dollars a year, “and it could be even higher”, emphasised Plenković.
While Los Angeles, he also met with Mayor Karen Bass, with whom he discussed the potential for strengthening cooperation between Croatia and California. The large Croatian community in San Pedro makes an important contribution to that.
“Mayor Bass informed us about the preparations for the organisation of the 2028 Olympic Games and part of the World Cup in Los Angeles in 2026,” Plenković said.
He also stated that there are already ideas where the Croatian house (Hrvatska kuća) would be during the Olympic Games and “it can be said that through these sports manifestations and huge global events, LA will be very much in the focus of both the world and Croatia, and that’s why this visit was timely and very useful.”
