February the 16th, 2026 – The Croatian Government is providing financial assistance to Mostar Airport across the border in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Transport Minister Oleg Butković and the Mayor of Mostar Mario Kordić were recently in Mostar where they jointly signed an agreement on the allocation of funds for the improvement of the air transport system in Mostar. According to that agreement, the Croatian Government has provided cash, allocating 1.75 million euros to Mostar Airport.

According to Minister Oleg Butković, 950,000 euros are related to the connection between Zagreb and Mostar, and the remaining amount of 800,000 euros is intended for investment in safety, infrastructure and equipment in the airport itself.

“Over the past couple of years, we’ve all worked together to make this an airport that sees about 70,000 passengers per year. Over these two years, by subsidising and helping to maintain the lines between Zagreb and Mostar, a total of around 21,000 passengers have been transported between the two cities.

The signing of this agreement implies the continuation of subsidising air lines which fly to Zagreb and vice versa, as well as 800,000 euros that will be intended for the infrastructural expansion of the airport. Then we’ve got the expansion of the terminal and a continuation that will include lighting and a project worth around three and a half million euros,” the minister emphasised.

In addition to this, he stated that they also have very good cooperation and implemented projects in terms of road infrastructure and that numerous projects have been implemented so far in this part of Herzegovina. “In accordance with our capabilities, we’re also following other projects and our purpose is better transport connectivity, and I think that this is something that brings us closer, connects us and enables greater growth in activities because without good and safe transport connectivity there can be no economic growth”, concluded Butković.

Mayor of Mostar Mario Kordić stated that the signing of the agreement represents a continuation of the successful cooperation with the Croatian Government and Mostar Airport that began three years ago with the introduction of the Mostar – Zagreb line.

“That was the first prerequisite for Mostar Airport to be seen on the map of international airports and to open up the possibility of talks with other companies. From almost zero passengers then, today we’ve reached more than 70,000 passengers last year”, concluded Kordić.
