June the 9th, 2024 – Thanks to EU, Eurozone and Schengen accession, the Croatian passport has become the most powerful in the region.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, since the beginning of the year, Croatian passport strength has risen quite visibly, from 26th position in January to 24th in the months that followed. By May this year, several countries had abolished or eased visa requirements for Croatian passport holders entirely, which put the Croatian passport in an excellent 22nd place, as reported by tportal.
how is the croatian passport ranked by visaguide?
The VisaGuide Passport Index is a ranking system for passports from all around the world. It uses a factor called the Destination Significance Score (DSS) to assign a unique value to each nation’s passport. The Destination Significance Score (DSS) is calculated by combining several development indices for each country, such as:
GDP per inhabitant, strength index, tourism index and human development index
In addition to the above, the following factors and options are included in the calculations:
Visa-free travel, electronic travel authorisation, visa on arrival, electronic visa (e-Visa), embassy or other visas approved by the government, travelling without a passport, no entry
Since July 2013, the Republic of Croatia has made very many concrete steps forward on the international stage. It first joined the European Union and thus the single market in summer 2013. It then scrapped the kuna and joined the Eurozone, adopting the euro as its official currency, and joined Schengen on the same day – making it the only country in history to have done so. In line with those strategic moves, the Croatian passport has risen through the ranks to a position few could have imagined 15 or 20 years ago.
