April the 13th, 2026 – A huge record for the Croatian passport as it is listed among the world’s top 10 most powerful, ahead of the United States of America.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Croatian passport is currently among the world’s top 10 most powerful travel documents. According to the latest Henley Passport Index for 2026, it ranks an incredibly impressive 8th in the global rankings, which represents the best ranking ever for Croatia.
Croatian citizens can enter 183 countries without a visa, making the Croatian passport stronger than those of the United States of America. Given the current situation with the US, however, this shouldn’t come as a shock. Analysts attribute this success to very stable diplomatic relations, full integration into the Schengen area, and membership in the Eurozone.
It is important to note that the index, published by the consulting firm Henley & Partners, does not measure the economic standard or quality of life, but only the freedom of movement of citizens – that is, the number of destinations that can be entered without a prior visa by that passport holder.
In the European neighbourhood, Croatia ranks very well, but is still somewhat weaker than some other countries of the European Union. Italy ranks 4th, while Hungary and Slovenia are in 5th place, or a shared high place (with access to 184 destinations). On the other hand, the difference with neighbouring countries outside the EU remains significant. Serbia is in 30th place, Montenegro and North Macedonia share 37th place, while Bosnia and Herzegovina is in 40th place on the global scale.
This growth of the Croatian passport further confirms the strengthening of Croatia’s position on the international scene in terms of citizen mobility.
