February the 10th, 2025 – A very unusual Croatian presentation has been planned for the 2025 Japan EXPO, and it involves something that has never been done before.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Croatian presentation at the Japan EXPO (EXPO 2025 World Exhibition Japan) will be entirely original. All visitors to the Croatian pavilion will have the opportunity to view a live broadcast of the air temperature that will be present at that exact moment across around 50 locations across the whole of Croatia. This has never been done before.
The Croatian presentation at EXPO Japan was designed by a team consisting of Lana Grahek, Maroje Mrduljaš, Antonio Patljak, Korina Vuković and Pero Vuković. The idea is that instead of discussing climate as an abstract concept, visitors will be offered a direct physical experience through a heating and cooling system of pipes. The Croatian pavilion will therefore reproduce the temperature and humidity of the air across Croatia and transmit it directly to Japan.
The pavilion, as emphasised at the presentation, will therefore never remain the same, instead it will constantly change and each visit will offer a new experience. Each of the climate zones will be filmed with thermal cameras that record the interactions of visitors and the micro-climates. Selected locations around the meteorological stations will also be being filmed with thermal cameras and these video transmissions will then be matched with the calculated time difference between Croatia and Japan. They will then be displayed at the Croatian presentation at EXPO Japan, as well as on the website and on the pavilion’s social media.
Pero Vuković pointed out that from the very first thoughts and ideas, many hours were spent, numerous collaborators were involved and various details were resolved. All together, they managed to create an artefact that will represent Croatia and its climatic diversity and uniqueness, in a totally unusual manner.
“We’re travelling to the country of excellence, to show Croatian excellence. We want to be recognised for the excellence of the architectural and design solution itself, and for Enison’s mechanical engineers and fitters who brought this solution to life,” said Enison’s development manager Marko Bjegović, not forgetting to mention the great cooperation with other contractors and partners, from Orka-Inox, Rineo Design, PID Automatika, Novena to Bien Studio and Cargo-partner.
Fifteen kilometres of piping and 13,000 joints and clamps have been provided to create the Croatian “climate” in Japan. Immediately after the initial presentation, the disassembled pavilion weighing a massive 47 tonnes will be transported by plane to Japan, and the first parts should arrive on Tuesday. It will then be presented here in Croatia when the Japanese presentation is completed.
The EXPO exhibition is otherwise being held from April the 13th all the way to October the 13th on the artificial island of Yumeshima, in the city of Osaka, built specifically for the purpose of holding the EXPO. According to estimates by the organisers, the exhibition, which will feature more than 160 countries and international organisations, is expected to be seen by an estimated 28 million visitors.
