July the 17th, 2024 – The heatwave is continuing to bite and bite hard, and now the record Croatian sea temperature has been measured at a staggering 29.7 degrees at 17:00.
All of us are roasting and staying inside as much as possible under the air conditioner or accompanied by a fan. The temperatures at the moment are insufferable and the sun is extremely harsh. Some will claim this is normal for a Croatian summer, but the Copernicus data shows something quite different and the temperature fluctuation is alarming to say the very least:
The Croatian sea temperature is also very high, offering anything but a cooling, refreshing dip in the Adriatic to beat the sun’s intolerable rays.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, on the 15th of this month, the highest Croatian sea temperature was measured since the DHMZ has been measuring it in the Republic of Croatia. It stood at a concerning 29.7 degrees Celsius at 17:00, when the sun is supposed to beginning to be far less harsh than during the middle of the day.
So far, the absolute highest Croatian sea temperature measured by DHMZ stations was measured back on July the 21st, 2015 on the island of Rab. It stood at 29.5 degrees Celsius.
Most of the absolute maximums were measured in July, followed by August and then the earlier summer month of June. Most of the maximums when it comes to Croatian sea temperature were measured during July 2015. The DHMZ station with the longest series of measurements is the one on the island of Hvar (where it has been measuring since 1964). There the absolute maximum of 28.0 degrees Celsius was measured on August the 15th, 2015, according to DHMZ data.
DHMZ also measured a very high sea temperatures at other measuring stations across the country on the 15th of July. Those temperatures were above 29 degrees Celsius in Mljet, Malinska and Crikvenica, and elsewhere they never dipped lower than 26 degrees Celsius.
