July the 18th, 2023 – New Croatian student cards are set to become a reality relatively soon. They will allow students access into students’ centres, onto public transport and the like.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, with the beginning of this academic year, students will have new Croatian student cards. The old ones are set to enter the history books, and the new ones are set to bring a number of new things to students. Among other things, the new Croatian student cards will serve as cards for students to enter the premises of their higher education institutions, student dormitories, sports facilities, the National and University Library, and use public transport, according to Večernji list.

Personalisation and braile

Among other things, the new Croatian student cards will contain braile for blind and partially sighted people, and although their front side will be the same for students attending all of the country’s universities, the back of the card will be able to be personalised by each university according to its own preferences. Thanks to safer cryptography, the new student ID cards will also guarantee the highest level of data protection.

Mobile student identities

In addition to the new physical student card, by the end of this year at the latest, all prerequisites for the implementation of a mobile student identity will also be provided, which, as the Ministry of Education said, students will be able to use as part of the digital wallet within the free Certilia app. In other words, students will have digital Croatian student cards in their smartphones and will be able to apply for state subsidies in a simpl manner and with much less administrative procedures. They’ll also be provided an insight into their grades, their class attendance records and use all the services offered by a much more digital society.

More favourable issuance

The change compared to the previous model is that these new Croatian student cards will be valid for all levels of study, meaning that its issuance will be more favourable. Until now, ID cards were issued depending on the level of undergraduate or graduate studies a person was enrolled in. The total price of cards for a five-year study was 13.27 euros, and the new price for a five-year study will be 11.70 euros.
