May the 3rd, 2024 – One Croatian town in the continental part of the country is introducing 1 euro parking for people over the age of 65.
One thing that more or less everyone can form a united front on is the cost of parking in various areas across the country. The likes of Dubrovnik are infamous for the difficulties they present in being able to leave a vehicle somewhere safely and cheaply, and many other cities struggle with the same issue.
One Croatian town that is otherwise very rarely spoken or written about, and even less heard of by those from outside the country, has decided to introduce parking for a mere 1 euro for individuals over 65.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, while many cities and towns across the country charge people for parking by the hour, often at a price higher than one euro, Belišće has provided privileges for over 65s. Everyone who falls into that group will pay only just a single euro per month for parking, and they also have at their disposal a half-yearly ticket for six and an annual ticket for 12 euros.
According to Mirovina/Pension.hr, this is the very welcome result of changes in the decision on the amount of the parking fee, which was adopted by that Croatian town’s councillors over more recent days.
Otherwise, the price per hour is 0.40 euros in the first and 0.30 euros in the second zone in Belišće.
“For people who have reached the age of 65 and over, we have proposed a price of one euro for a month, that is, six euros for six months and 12 euros for an annual ticket,” Marko Anić, manager of the Service for organising car parks and charging for parking, said at the session of the City Council.
Unfortunately, we can’t see this trend taking off nationwide, and especially not with areas such as Zagreb or the coast.
