December the 18th, 2024 – According to Eurostat, Croatian wage growth has been ranked as being among the best in the European Union (EU) in 2023/2024 comparisons.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, according to the latest data on the nominal growth of hourly wages in the third quarter of 2024, Croatian wage growth is at the very top of the European Union.
With impressive salary growth of 15.1 percent compared to the same period back in 2023, Croatia is second in line, right behind Romania, which recorded the highest growth of all EU Member States, with 17.1 percent.
Among EU countries, the cost of wages and salaries in Romania increased the most in the period from July to September, by 17.1 percent, compared to the same period last year, according to a Eurostat statement.
Croatian wage growth follows closely with a growth of monthly salaries of 15.1 percent compared to the third quarter of last year. In the second quarter, Croatian wage growth stood at 17.6 percent on an annual basis, HRT reports.
Neighbouring Hungary is also gaining on Croatia’s increases, with Hungarian wage growth rising by 14.1 percent. Hungary is followed by Bulgaria and Latvia with increases of 12.7 and 12.6 percent, respectively.
Only three other European Union countries recorded double-digit growth, including Poland and Lithuania, with increases of 12 and 11 percent, respectively. Then came nearby Austria, with wage costs rising by 10 percent, Eurostat claimed in their latest report.
A decline in wages and incomes was recorded only in Greece, by 2.9 percent, and that was compared to the same period last year.
