This will be the seventh edition of the traditional festival.
The Days of Krk Island Wines is a traditional wine festival which takes place in Vrbnik. This year’s seventh edition will be held on 24 and 25 August.
The wine festival marks the end of the summer programmes in Vrbnik which that take place under the common brand “Drink and Eat” and which promote local values in the production and preparation of food and wines, as well as accompanying folklore customs and music.
The summer festival consists of three main events which take place on three significant tourist weekends during July and August: The Žlahtina Festival – Razgon and the Šurlica Days have already been held, and this weekend the Days of Krk Island Wines will conclude the series of summer events.
Over the upcoming weekend, Vrbnik will again become the gastronomy and wine centre of the Kvarner tourism, which is already a well-known fact for many Croatian and foreign guests. Wineries and exhibitors from Osijek-Baranja County will bring their products and join the festivities, which will make this year’s event even more interesting than usual.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy a rich and diverse entertainment programme on the Škujica Square, Vrbnik Statutes Piazza and Ribarnica. During both days of the festival, wine tastings will be organized, together with a fair of autochthonous local products, while Saturday will see an exhibition of wines and wine equipment.
For those who want to learn more and have fun at the same time, two wine workshops will be organised at Vinotel Gospoja. One will cover the unique autochthonous variety of Sansigot, while the other will present the sparkling Žlahtina wines of the Vrbnik winemakers. The workshops will be led by wine professionals and experts Nenad Trifunović (vinopija.com) and Martina Miličević.
Nenad Trifunović is the author of Dnevnik Vinopije, the most influential Croatian wine blog, as well as a participant and moderator of a series of successful topical wine workshops, and the head of the Wine Reading Room wine education initiative, a table culture promoter and wine writer.
Martina Miličević is a wine journalist (Nova TV’s punkufer.hr) and an associate at wine projects for export of wines to the European Union and the United States (thewineandmore.com), as well as a certified wine enthusiast at Wine & Spirits Education Trust, WSET Level 3.
Cycling fans will enjoy the Vrbnik Wine & Bike Night – a ride through the Vrbnik field and its surroundings, with tastings of the Vrbnik Žlahtina.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 8 pm on Friday on the Škujica Square. On both festival days, Vrbnik will become a stage for music and performances. This year’s Wine Days will feature the VKD Frankopan folklore group, Venus, Xfinity, Trio Crikvenica, Mitja Tavčar and Denis Razz Quartet, and the Hrvatski Sokoli tamburitza band from Osijek.
