August 23, 2023 – Due to microbiological pollution, drinking water in Rakovica needs to be boiled as a preventive measure, the Karlovac County Public Health Institute announced.

Tea Frketić from the county Institute of Public Health explained that the water is not dangerous for health, writes Index; however, it would be good to boil it as a preventive measure. Apparently, a large number of bacterial colonies have been found in it. She also points out that it is not bacteria that would be dangerous to human health.

It is recommended to boil drinking water in Rakovica for at least three minutes and store such water cold in the same containers in which it was boiled.

“We have sent a precautionary message that the water should be boiled. Such a finding does not mean that there will be consequences for human health if the water is not boiled before consumption. Not a single dangerous bacteria was found,” said Frketić, saying that there is no reason to panic.

Rakovica Often Has Problems With Water Reduction

The sample was taken in the toilet of the municipal building, and the assumption is that the bacteria colonies appeared due to staleness in the installations.

The Director of the Spelekomta Municipal Company, Ivan Hodak, stated that the drinking water has never been contaminated in Rakovica and that another sample will be taken and analyzed on Wednesday.

Rakovica often has problems with water reductions due to increased consumption during the tourist season. This is because the municipality does not have its own source but gets its water from Korenica.

The residents of Rakovica expect a long-term solution to this problem with the construction of the Lika Jesenica – Rakovica – Plitvička Jezera water pipeline, which is currently being designed.
