October the 17th, 2025 – An expressway between Mostar in neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina and Imotski in the Dalmatian hinterland is set to be constructed.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, a contract for the construction of an expressway between Mostar and the border with Croatia (more specifically Imotski) through western Herzegovina has been signed. It comes with a hefty price tag in excess of 51 million euros, and it was signed this week.

The total length of the future Mostar North – Široki Brijeg – Croatian border road spans a total area of 60.7 kilometres. The new expressway from Mostar will connect to the Croatian road network near Imotski. With its construction, Mostar and most of the rest of Herzegovina will be better connected to central Dalmatia and Split in neighbouring Croatia.

The contract was signed by Denis Lasić, Director of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Motorway, and Ladislav Bevanda, Director of the Hering Široki Brijeg construction company, on behalf of the consortium of contractors. “Although the construction of Corridor Vc is currently the priority of the FBiH Motorway, the signing of the contract for the construction of the motorway through western Herzegovina is an indication that we haven’t neglected other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Lasić assured after signing the contract.

He added that this project will improve the transport connection of western Herzegovina with the Corridor Vc highway, as well as with the transport network of Croatia and the European Union (EU). He noted that the construction of this new segment of roadway would also work to further stimulate economic development.

“The signing of this contract officially begins the construction phase of the Mostar – Široki Brijeg – Grude – Croatian border expressway, one of the most strategically important expressway projects in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” concluded Andrijana Katić, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
