Genial Jancis Robinson to arrive in Split to first world conference on Tribidrag, most important Croatian wine grape variety
In the spring of next year, on April 27 and 28 in Split, the first great conference will be held on Tribidrag, under the well made title I Am Tribidrag. Tribidrag is by far the most important Croatian indigenous wine grape variety. Tribidrag is Zinfandel, the variety that has been the backbone of the Californian wine industry for decades. Tribidrag is equally important in Sicily, where it is known as Primitivo. Tribidrag, in the most influential book ever published on wine varieties “Wine Grapes”, authored by the great Jancis Robinson, was given seven pages, just as much or more than classic world varieties, Plavakamenica.hr reported on October 20, 2016.
The conference I Am Tribidrag is organised by several Croatian enthusiasts including dr. Edi Maletić, a giant of modern Croatian science on wines. On the second day of the conference, Friday, April 28, Jancis Robinson will take the floor, the genial British wine critic whose ratings often have the same weight as Parker’s.
Tribidrag has, like Zinfandel and Primitivo, significantly defined the global wine industry. Never has any variety, nor a wine nor a Croatian brand come even close to have such a strong influence on the global wine scene like Tribidrag. To strengthen Tribidrag’s name and its Croatian reputation, it is high time for Dalmatian winemakers to give up on the useless unpronounceable name Crljenak and all uniformly accept Tribidrag as the only name for the grapes that have conquered half the world. The conference on Tribidrag is one of the most important events in the newer history of the Croatian wine industry. We congratulate the organisers. Everything on the conference can be found here.
