Fire at NCP Shipyard in Šibenik broke out, most likely caused by an explosion of gas bottles.
Fire in the Šibenik shipyard broke out today around noon, reports Index.hr.
The fire has been put out and is under control now.
“There are no serious consequences, no one has been hurt or injured so it seems that there will be more problems,” Center 112 reports.
Witnesses who were near the NCP shipyard at the time of the outbreak say that they also heard an explosion. “Most likely, it was not the sound of an explosion, but the crackling of the glass due to high temperatures,” they said.
ŠibenikIn reports that the scene looked pretty dramatic, seeing the thick black smoke spreading over Mandalina.
According to unofficial resources, the fire broke out in one of the containers and spread to the nearby packaging that was right next to it. We are not sure whether gas or some other pressure bottles have exploded, which is may have been the reason the detonations were heard. After the detonations, the fire spread to the assembly hall, which is located right next to the administrative building of the NCP Shipyard.
Fully equipped firefighters came in shortly after the fire broke out. The hall was supposedly empty at the time. Judging by the lack of ambulance vehicle at the scene of the accident, there was nobody injured in the fire.
“We’ve heard detonations, after which the firefighters immediately arrived. We first thought it was an explosion, then we fought that the glass broke, but now they say that some of the pressure bottles might have exploded. Apparently, there was no one was in the hall when the fire broke out, and firefighters allegedly arrived before the people employed in NCP even knew about the fire,” says one of the witnesses at Mandalina.
