Who would have expected – a summer snowfall!

Webcams of the popular ski resort in Platak near Rijeka have recorded the season’s first snow – even though the summer is officially not over, reports Jutarnji.hr on September 19, 2017.

Astronomically speaking, the summer is still on, meteorologically, the autumn has been in full swing for the last few weeks, but last [Tuesday] night the feel has been wintery as the first snowflakes fell in the mountainous region of Gorski Kotar.

According to Accuweather data, the recorded air temperature in Platak, Gorski Kotar was about 5°C, however, the webcams from the official website of the popular ski resort show clearly show the snow falling, even lingering on the ground at places, indicating that the real temperature is even lower.

You can see the live webcam video of the ski resort at platak.hr.

Although the red alarm concerning high levels of precipitation and heavy rain was issued on Tuesday for most of Croatia, the forecasters have obviously overlooked this possibility of snow.
