September the 29th, 2026 – Yet another heatwave is due to arrive in Europe from Africa, but what does it mean for temperatures in Croatia?
Currently, a very deep and slow-moving cyclone is located over the Atlantic, with its centre situated between Iceland and Great Britain. Its eastward progress is blocked by a field of high pressure over central and eastern Europe. Index reports that from the front side of the cyclone, together with upper-level flow from the southeast, a warm and dry air mass of Saharan origin is arriving over the European mainland, according to N1 Television meteorologist Bojan Lipovščak.

The field of elevated pressure over Croatia and the immediate region is supporting clear and stable weather. On the Adriatic coast and the islands, a weak to moderate anticyclonic bura is blowing. Due to the clear nights, morning and night-time temperatures inland are relatively low, so light frost is possible in places near the ground. After sunrise, air temperatures rise quickly, and the daily temperature range reaches up to 20 °C in some places, which requires appropriate layered clothing.

Today the weather will be sunny, with weak development of daytime cloudiness in the mountainous areas of the interior. In Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem, increased cloudiness from the northeast is expected during the afternoon and evening. The highest daily temperatures inland and on the Adriatic will be between 22 and 27 °C. On the Adriatic, a moderate tramontana and maestral will blow, while on the far south of Dalmatia a strong bura is expected in gusts. On Tuesday, after local morning fog, it will be sunny and one to two degrees warmer than on Monday. Morning temperatures inland will be around 8 °C, and on the Adriatic around 15 °C. The highest daily temperatures will range from 21 to 27 °C.
On the Adriatic coast, a weak to moderate maestral will blow, and in the Podvelebit coastal area and the south of Dalmatia up to a moderate bura.

Stable and warm weather continues throughout the week. A change in the weather that should bring precipitation and a drop in temperature is likely only around the 10th of October. The bura wind has pushed the warm surface layer of the sea towards the open sea, so sea temperatures have fallen and currently range between 22 and 24 °C.
