October the 2nd, 2023 – A strong Herzegovina earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale with an epicentre near Grude has rocked Dalmatia this morning.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, a fairly strong earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale hit the area of Herzegovina and was felt in areas in Dalmatia this morning. It appears that this earthquake’s epicentre was not far from Grude in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Institute (EMSC) reported.

The shaking of the ground as a result of the Herzegovina earthquake lasted for several seconds, and according to the first reports, there have been no casualties or material damage.

The epicentre of the Herzegovina earthquake was at a depth of around ten kilometres, close to Grude, EMSC said.

The ground first started to shake at 10:29 this morning. According to the statements on the X platform (formerly Twitter) of the EMSC, people most were saying that the ground “shook strongly” that it was “a strong earthquake” and that “it was also felt in Posušje”.

Users of this service in the Croatian municipalities of Podgora, Tučepi, Sućuraj, and Makarska, all of which are located in Central Dalmatia, reported the earthquake shortly after it occurred.
