UN’s 2015 Revision of World Population Prospects is out.

Twenty-fourth round of official United Nations population estimates and projections that have been prepared by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat was published today. According to the report, which displays key demographic indicators until the end of the century, Croatia is listed among countries expected to lose more than 15% of their population by 2050 along with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldavia, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.

According to these estimates, Croatia currently has a population of 4 240 000 (2 045 000 men and 2 195 000 women) while the first significant demographic free-fall will already be felt in 2030 when Croatia’s population is estimated at 3 977 000 or 270 000 less than today. Situation will not get better in the future, at least according to this projection because in 2050 we’re expected to have a population of 3 554 000 and by the end of the century only 2 615 000.
