Grand tasting of Hvar wines, with the hvar Winemakers’ Association and Dino Petrić
Hvar, May 11th 2018. The week-long celebration started with a wine and song event on Thursday May 10th, 2018, in the newly refurbished Hvar Arsenal where Hvar winemakers poured their best wines, and the guests were entertained by the young music phenomenon, Dino Petrić.
Visitors were able to taste wines from Vina Carić, Plančić Brothers, Tomić, Zlatan Otok – Plenković, Hvar Hills and PZ Svirče. And not just taste, but discuss them with the winemakers, most of whom were in attendance, pouring their own wines and answering questions.
This was just the first in a series of events in this week-long celebration. The wine events organised by the Hvar Winemakers Association, continue today in the Hotel Amphora with a set of guided lectures/tastings. The first will be led by Croatian Sommelier Mario Meštrović, and focus on the Hvar indigenous white varieties. The second, by Italian Sommelier Bartolomeo Roberto Lepori, will be about Plavac Mali, the noble son of a royal wine that crossed the oceans: Tribidrag/Primitivo/Zinfandel/Crljenak. Attendees will be able to taste samples of wines from Hvar, and also from Italy and California.
Other events in the week-long festival include an island product fair plus an evening of folk and klapa songs today, Super Cover Band concert on Saturday, Fashion show and a traditional boat parade “The Dance of Sails” on Sunday, Four Tenors concert on Monday, and an ongoing exhibition about the 150 years since the founding of the Hygienic Society of Hvar from Tuesday. The grand finale on Tuesday evening will be the concert by Gibonni.
