November 4, 2023 – The 45th edition of the biggest international book fair in Croatia, Interliber, is yet again about to take place in its traditional term from November 7 to 12.
Interliber is the largest book fair in Croatia, a place where books are celebrated, a place where all generations of readers meet and where we regularly witness the creation of love for books.
Taking place at the Zagreb Fairgrounds, publishers will present an extremely rich program of new editions from a wide variety of fields, proving that Croatian publishing knows and finds a way to book lovers.
Interliber is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević. The media partner is the Croatian Radio Television – HRT.
Pavilions 5, 6, 7 and 7a will be filled by more than 300 exhibitors from 13 countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, France, Croatia, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, USA, Slovenia, Serbia, Sweden, Great Britain and Northern Ireland ) on more than 13,000 m2.
“Slumdog MILLIONAIRE” Author VIKAS SWARUP as the Interliber GUEST OF Honor
A special treat at this year’s book fair is the guest appearance of the world-famous writer and Indian diplomat, Vikas Swarup, whose novel “Q&A” was the basis for the famous, multiple award-winning and Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.
His visit was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of India in the Republic of Croatia.
“Q&A” is the first novel he wrote, and it was published in 2005 in 43 languages. The film version of “Q&A” titled “Slumdog Millionaire”, directed by Danny Boyle, won more than 70 awards including four Golden Globes, 7 BAFTAs and an incredible 8 Oscars. In addition to this book, he also wrote “The Accidental Apprentice” and “Six Suspects”.
On the first day of Interliber, on November 7 at 6:00 p.m. in Pavilion 7 of the Zagreb Fair, a meeting with the author titled “The Talk: Vikas Swarup” is organized. Among other things, he will be happy to answer questions from the audience. The moderator is Jasen Boko, a writer, playwright, travel writer and journalist. The lecture will be followed by a signing of the book “Milijunaš s ulice” published in Croatia by the publishing house Znanje.
Vikas Swarup was born in India and graduated in history, psychology and philosophy. After completing his studies, he joined the Indian Foreign Service. In his diplomatic career, he held posts in Turkey, the United States of America, Ethiopia, the United Kingdom and South Africa. He served as Consul General in Japan, Official Spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, and was India’s High Commissioner to Canada.
His arrival at Interliber will be a unique opportunity for all book lovers to meet live with the author who won the hearts of readers all over the world with a touching and inspiring story.
