July the 30th, 2025 – Beloved young football star Joško Gvardiol experiences special forces simulation in the heart of Velebit and becomes the first ambassador of the Croatian project Commando Squad 9.

Croatian national and Manchester City defender Joško Gvardiol has kicked off his preparations for the upcoming season in a truly unconventional way. Gvardiol took part in an exclusive commando mission simulation, inspired by the world of tactical video games and real-life special operations.

Set in the wilderness and led by former special forces operatives and security experts, the training included demanding endurance tasks, team survival challenges, night navigation, and tactical movement using airsoft replicas. The program is designed as a physical and mental upgrade for individuals looking to push their limits – with zero compromise on safety.

“I’ve always wanted to feel what it’s like to be part of special forces and complete a real commando mission,” Gvardiol shared on his Instagram profile.

Just as he pushes boundaries on the pitch, Gvardiol tackled the rugged Velebit terrain with full commando gear and a mountain ascent – a preparation that will no doubt serve him well for a season that may culminate in the World Cup across the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

One of Croatia’s finest footballers, Gvardiol once again proved his professional dedication by using a short break after the FIFA Club World Cup for a completely new kind of experience.

Commando Squad 9, a Croatian brand, is the world’s first project that transforms video game-style missions into real, safe, and structured adventures for civilians, athletes, and teams seeking more than traditional team building. Each mission is inspired by real-life special operations stories and fully tailored to the client’s fitness level and preferences.

In addition to pushing his limits, the Croatian national team defender fulfilled a childhood dream in Luka Modrić’s homeland. It’s clear the Velebit region holds special inspiration for Croatian footballers – and, soon enough, likely many others.
