July the 5th, 2025 – Big contracts and long term engagement have been secured by the Croatian company Končar in Germany and Austria.

As Sinisa Malus/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Končar D&ST recently reported on major deals done on the Austrian and German markets. TIWAG, a regional energy supply company otherwise based in Innsbruck, has awarded Končar D&ST a contract for the supply of medium-power transformers.

The value of the contract secured by Končar in Germany and Austria stands at close to 29 million euros, and the implementation of individual deliveries is expected over a period of several years. It will all start with the initial deliveries in the year 2027. The scope of this extensive work includes the design, production, testing, delivery, unloading and installation of the transformers in question. All of which takes into account stringent legal obligations, customer requirements and the very high standards of Končar D&ST.

“This contract is a continuation of Končar D&ST’s presence on the Austrian market and a confirmation of its position as one of the leading manufacturers in the medium-power transformer segment. It also further cements the company as a key player in the modernisation and construction of Europe’s electricity infrastructure,” they said from Končar of these enviable new contracts in Germany and Austria.

On that same track, their contract secured in Germany is also of a welcome long-term nature. E.ON SE, a European multinational energy company headquartered in Essen, has awarded Končar D&ST a framework contract for the supply of transformers to Germany. The framework contract was signed for the period from June 2025 all the way to December 2033, and the first deliveries are expected in January 2028. The value of the contract hasn’t yet disclosed, but it is likely an eye watering sum.

These two deals will certainly have an additional positive impact on Končar already excellent results, both inside and outside of Germany and Austria. Končar Distribution and Special Transformers (D&ST) otherwise achieved a consolidated profit after tax of 37.6 million euros in the first quarter of this year, marking a massive 76.4 percent increase compared to the first quarter of 2024. Consolidated operating income in the first quarter of this year amounted to an impressive 129.8 million euros, equal to 33.4 percent more than in the same period last year.

Consolidated profit before tax amounted to 45.9 million euros for Končar, representative of an increase of 77.2 percent compared to the same period in 2024. Consolidated EBITDA for the first quarter of 2025 also amounted to 46.7 million euros, marking an increase of 74.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

“Intensive investments in various de-carbonisation projects, renewable energy sources (such as wind and solar power) and electric mobility generated high demand for transformers. This is especially true in regard to EU countries. Increased demand, a good market position and the establishment of the Končar D&ST Group on demanding foreign markets, as well as the recognition of sales opportunities resulted in growth in revenue and profit in the first quarter of 2025,” they stated from this well known Croatian enterprise.
