March the 6th, 2025 – Krk island being presented at various tourism fairs across the globe increases not only the island’s visibility, but its ability to offer more to its visitors.

Krk island is popular, but it isn’t anywhere close to the level of popularity of Split, Zadar, Dubrovnik, and so on. More can be done to secure its deserved spot in the global tourism limelight, and attending tourism and travel fairs is one excellent way to do that.

As Bodulija/Martina Frka Milotic writes, the Krk Tourist Board, in cooperation with various smaller local tourist boards, has been working hard to position Krk island more firmly on the tourism map of Croatia and Europe. Promoting this beautiful Croatian island and everything it has on offer at various tourism fairs is crucial for keeping it in the limelight on key emitting markets.

“We’ve successfully presented Krk island at prestigious fairs in Austria and Germany, which are strategically important markets and have been for many years. Visits from these countries have been the highest of all on Krk island for a long time now. In January, we participated at the Ferien Messeu fair in Vienna, which is otherwise the largest tourism fair in Austria. In February, we presented Krk’s rich and varied offer to specialised camping fairs in Essen, in which Croatia was a country partner. Then we were present at the Munich-based f.r.e.e fair, which is one of the largest general tourism fairs in Germany,” they stated from the Krk Tourist Board.

The aforementioned Essen fair is well known for its emphasis placed on camping and general outdoor tourism. The Krk Tourist Board therefore presented the island’s offer at the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) stand. It showcased all Krk island has to offer, from its rich local gastronomy to its choice of outdoor activities. Over 120,000 people visited the Essen fair, and the level of interest in Krk was great, particularly among lovers of outdoor, active holidays, as well as among those keen on sustainable tourism.

Last year’s results speak volumes about the sheer importance of both Germany and Austria as emitting markets for Croatia, and as such for Krk island. Over 330,000 arrivals and 2.1 million overnight stays were realised by visitors from just these two countries on the island. That represents a very significant 37% cut of the entire tourism “cake” on Krk in 2024.

Krk island is now presenting itself at the huge ITB Berlin tourism fair. ITB Berlin is otherwise one of the biggest and most significant tourism fairs in the world, and it is currently taking place (March the 4th – March the 6th). This tourism fair is crucial as a platform for networking, cooperation and promoting Krk as an alluring destination to visit for all kinds of travellers. Hotel Krk from Krk and Hotel Malin from Malinska are also present with their own respective offers at ITB Berlin.

“After Berlin, we’re going to Wroclaw (Poland) from the 21st to the 23rd of March, where we aim to get the Polish market even better acquainted with Krk’s offer. Polish tourists have been arriving in increasing numbers more recently, and so we want to continue that momentum. At the beginning of next month, we’ll be in Bologna at an outdoor fair, which will be ideal for positioning Krk as an active tourism destination. Our presence promoting Krk island at tourism fairs is key to strengthening Krk on an international scale and encouraging visits from all over Europe. We’re going to be continually actively promoting the island, and we’re looking forward to new business opportunities and successful cooperation,” they concluded from the Krk Tourist Board.
