”Some people fled, some slept in their cars”

As Index reported on the 9th of August, 2017, Rijeka’s earthquake yesterday didn’t stop at just a few rumbles. On Tuesday night, more specifically Wednesday morning at around 04:00, an earthquake of 2.9 magnitude occurred, with an epicenter located about two kilometers north of Selce.

According to data from EMSC, just two hours later there was yet another jitter measuring at 2.2 with an epicenter roughly one kilometer southeast of the tourist destination of Crikvenica.

After the first earthquake struck Rijeka and Kvarner yesterday, at 3.4 on the Richter scale, the same area shook again late last night after another earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale was recorded between Krka and Jadranovo.

A number of earthquakes followed throughout the night which caused understandable panic to residents, with some people even taking it upon themselves to sleep in the open air or in their cars.
