November the 8th, 2024 – The construction of the by far the largest Croatian tourism project has begun – Valamar’s 5* Pical Resort.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, back at the beginning of this year, Valamar initiated the implementation of the most significant Croatian tourism project yet – the construction of the Pical 5* resort. The resort is scheduled to open in early 2026.

a 139 million euro investment in the largest croatian tourism project to date

This massive investment worth 139 million euros will be the driver of economic development, tourism and infrastructural progress of the local community, and the future Hotel Pical 5* will offer year-round tourism of the highest quality. In addition to that, it will directly create more than 700 new jobs and generally contribute to a better quality of life for the residents of the area of Poreč.

By investing in the Pical zone, public tourist infrastructure will be developed, which includes walkways, bike paths, a beach, outdoor and indoor swimming pools and a number of other facilities that will be available to tourists and the local population alike. Works on the construction site are currently proceeding according to plan, and with their completion, the Pical zone hopes to become the most alluring tourist zone in all of Croatia.

michelin chefs and an ode to istria’s locality

This, the largest Croatian tourism project, will eventually boast an impressive 514 accommodation units and facilities that combine luxury, family and active holidays and facilities for business tourism. Visitors will be able to enjoy eight themed restaurants with menus created by Michelin chefs. In addition, there will be ten bars offering drinks and signature cocktails inspired by this part of Istria’s local offer.

The Balance Spa Centre on the surface of an area spanning 1,300 square meters will offer relaxation and revitalisation at the highest level. The hotel will offer the most modern facilities for a family vacation, which include children’s playgrounds, children’s clubs and the Maro World educational playroom on more than 1,200 square meters, the largest playroom for unstructured play in tourism in the region.

The Pical resort will also provide outstanding opportunities for active rest and recreation, and the investment includes the development of beaches and public infrastructure such as the new Poreč Bike Centre, jogging and bike paths, an indoor pool for swimmers and a water sports centre. All recreational and sports facilities, including promenades, Pical beach and others, will be available to the general public and the local population. This cooperation will provide better conditions for training children and athletes attending local clubs, and will contribute to the strengthening of the sports infrastructure in Poreč.

a brand new congress centre

With a capacity of around 1,200 participants, the new congress centre within the resort of Pical itself will be the largest in all of Istria and will create the possibility for year-round holding of various business and social events. As such, it will directly contribute to the strengthening of congress tourism throughout the region. The expansion of this type of offer makes it possible to extend the current tourist season and opens the door to foreign guests with typically more spending power.

three million euros into the city budget

“For years now, Valamar has been investing in projects that continuously improve the quality of life in the community, from investing in educational institutions and sports programmes to supporting important initiatives. I’m sure that through the example of sustainable tourism, the development of the Pical zone will further enrich our local community. We estimate that the operation of the Pical resort, along with many other benefits, will directly bring about three million euros into the budget of the City of Poreč every year. This will significantly contribute to the local economy and society,” said Željko Kukurin, president of the Valamar Management Board.
