After twelve years of operation, Croatia’s largest Konzum store closes its doors.
Konzum, undoubtedly the most well known supermarket in Croatia, found itself in some hot water last year owing to the huge crisis in the Agrokor Group, Croatia’s largest privately owned company, of which Konzum is a part.
Agrokor’s snowballing financial problems saw several smaller Konzum stores across the country pay the ultimate price and face closure, but it seems the worries aren’t over for the largest of them all, which ceased operations yesterday owing not to Agrokor’s mess, but to the expiration of a lease contract.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 3rd of January, 2018, the lease contract for the office space in Tower Center Rijeka expired on the 31st of December 2017, resulting in the closure of the largest Konzum store in operation in the country after twelve years of operation in the aforementioned location.
The contract for the lease of the office space at Tower Center of Rijeka expired on the 31st of December 2017, and according to the restructuring plan, the contract was not extended and the Konzum store therefore stopped operating, a total of 93 employees worked there.
It has been reported that everyone directly affected by the closure of the giant store has been transferred to new jobs in Rijeka and the surrounding area.
