October the 13th, 2024 – The longest Croatian motorway ever built will soon be put into function. It’s only been almost twenty years!

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, after 18.5 long years, the entire A11 Zagreb – Sisak motorway, otherwise the longest Croatian motorway yet, will finally be put into function. At the end of October, the last 11-kilometre section of the motorway from Lekenik to Sisak will have actual vehicles on it.

The section itself was actually completed back at the end of July, but in order to be put into proper function, a connecting road had to be built from the motorway to the state road in the town of Stupno on the D36 state road together with the integral Stupno junction. This intersection and the new connecting road will allow vehicles to exit the longest Croatian motorway and continue towards Sisak on the state road, Jutarnji has learned.

Darko Šošić, director of the Department for Preparation, Construction and Reconstruction at Croatian Roads/Hrvatske ceste, said that the technical inspection is scheduled for October the 15th and 15th and that they don’t expect significant objections. Shortly after that, the permit for use should be issued, followed by the final putting into function of the new roadway.

The connecting road itself is about 900 metres long, and with the branches of the junction, the total length spans 1.4 kilometres. On the road itself, the last few metres of the buffer fence are currently being installed, as are other final things. The works are being carried out by the Osijek-Koteks enterprise, with which the construction of a temporary exit from the motorway was only subsequently contracted so that the opening of the last section wouldn’t occur late. The real entrance to Sisak will be completed in autumn 2025.
