Angler app solves geometrical tasks using a smartphone camera.

After more than five months, the App Start Contest has finished. It is a competition of university students in the development of mobile and web applications. In the finals, seven teams took part and presented their ideas at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences in Zagreb. Each team had just three minutes to win the audience and the jury and convince them that their application was worth the main prize, reports Poslovni.hr on June 25, 2016.

The best app was chosen by a jury comprised of partner companies and representatives of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. This year’s competition was supported by Combis, Infobip, Zagrebačka Banka, Five, HRCloud, Infinum, MicroBlink, Nanobit, Shoutem, Span and Vibby, as well as the Zagreb Development Agency. Although the jury had a difficult task to select the winner, the first place and 20,000 kuna went to the Bottomline team and their Angler application. It is a mobile app that solves geometric tasks using a smartphone camera. The second place and 13,000 kuna went to the TeamBasket for their Basket app, while the third place and 7,000 kuna was won by the Coffeebreak team and the GuideTravel application.

Adrian Žgaljić, a member of the winning team, said that part of the award would be invested in further development of the application because it had great potential. He revealed that the app would soon be available for download from Google Play.

This was the ninth year in a row that the App Start Contest was held, and the event has been organized thanks to the efforts of student volunteers who are also members of the eStudent association. “With a project that involves a large number of people from different areas, it is difficult to set some expectations, but that is what makes the entire competition even more exciting. I can say that I am satisfied with the outcome because we have managed to provide an opportunity for another generation of competitors to present their skills”, said Rebeka Pugar, a member of the eStudent association and project manager of the Start App Contest.
