Small Croatian olive oil producer coming to a large market.
The family farm owned by the Istrian oil producer Sandi Chiavalon continues to successfully expand export channels for its olive oils. Chiavalon has just signed a contract for the export of top quality olive oils across the Atlantic, to the demanding American market, reports Poslovni.hr on June 7, 2016.
The first shipment has already arrived there. In addition to the United States, they export to Taiwan, Japan, all members of the European Union and neighbouring counties. Their aim is to be present in high-end restaurants. The farm now produces 10 tons per year, but they expect to double their production capacities in about two to three years.
Mike Druskovich, the owner of Drusk Trading Company, which distributes Chiavalon’s Ex Albis extra virgin olive oil on the whole territory of the United States, hopes that in the near future he will include in his distribution oils made by other producers located along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea as well.
These are exciting times for Croatian olive oil, says Druskovich. One of the reasons for such opinion is the fact that a highly-respected guide for olive oils Flos Olei Guide declared Istria as the world’s best olive region. This guide for extra virgin olive oils now includes 50 Istrian olive oil producers, so Istria has soared for the first time to the top of the list of the finest olive growing regions of the world.
Druskovich has high expectations with regards to the fact that olive oils from Krk and Istria are very near to obtaining a designation of protected origin of the European Union. “Due to companies like Chiavalon, I am proud of my Croatian origin. Olive oil from Croatia will become a big hit in the USA, where demand for olive oil is very high. Since its popularity is constantly growing, we expect the demand to grow as well, and our customers now have the opportunity to buy Chiavalon olive oil over the Internet as well”, concludes Druskovich.
