More Croatian innovation hits the international media – a smart bench from Solin which was first featured in the Croatian media last year.
Croatia is developing a reputation for developing some young and innovative deisgners, and one of the sections on TCN – Made in Croatia – will be a platform to highlight their innovations, as well as meet some of the people behind the ideas, and our first interview was with Andrija Colak, CEO of Surf ‘n’ Fries, and the man behind a new, smart and unbreakable umbrella. Although featured some time ago, another smart invention from a young man from Solin was featured in the international media yesterday, as the smart bench idea of Solin’s Ivan Mrvoš was featured on PSFK:
Croatia Bench Will Charge Your Phone and Illuminate the Night
“Together with his colleagues, 20-year-old Ivan Mrvoš built a smart bench that allows any user to charge their mobile phones, tablets and even use it as an Internet hotspot.
“This invention is indeed a first in Croatia and it is truly a marvelous one from a young man. Mrvoš called the bench Solarna e-klupa or “solar e-bench” in English. The bench, of course, is mostly used for sitting, but its extra features make it noteworthy.
“The Solarna e-klupa runs on solar energy and it can provide and use solar power for 10 days. The solar energy is what is used to charge mobile devices, fire up the hotspot, enable use of air sensors and more importantly, serve as an illuminating street light at night.
Mrvoš said that he had the support of the Solin Council and his colleagues to build the bench.
“The whole project in making the bench took around four months and the materials to make it were financed by the Solin Council. I worked for free, and without the help from my colleagues Toni Leja and Ante Parčina, it would not have been possible to do,” he told 24sata.”
