Sometimes I feel there is hope for this planet.
And sometimes one sees an idea so simple and progressive that one wonders why it had not been implemented before.
Day three of the 8th Days of Croatian Small Boat Building and Tourist Attractions Fair in Podstrana near Split brought the weekend crowds in their droves in trademark bright sunshine, and while the sun was great news for the boat builders who steadily sold their boats throughout the day, and for the tourist attractions companies, whose products were road tested by an inquisitive public, Dalmatia’s famous blue skies highlighted what for me was the most fascinating stand of the show.
Ever had a coffee powered by the sun, served from a mobile coffee unit with a speed of 10km/h, whose operation is 100% powered by the sun?
Meet Energomobil, an innovative Croatian company with a range of products which will soon be getting increased international attention. Director Marija Mrvelj told me that the company started six years ago bringing international solar technology into Croatia, but two and a half years ago, they started creating their own solutions. And how!
Starting with what seems to be the vogue product (and their best seller) – the smart bench, on which you charge your mobile device and rest, can work up to five days when without sun in the winter and is resistant to shock and completely antivandal engineered. The bench can simultaneously charge four mobile phones or tablets, has a hotspot for Internet and at night is lit by LED lighting that can be installed at the customer’s request.
From bench to street lamp. Solar lamp EASY STREET illuminates the street or park, charges mobile devices and serves as the seat for 10 people who can freely surf the internet in a range of 50m because the seat supports the work of Wi-Fi routers. Over 500W photovoltaic panels makes this product completely autonomous and allows the connection of additional consumers at your choice.
How about a smart bus stop? The fully autonomous Energomobil bus stop facilitates our daily journey giving us the possibility of charging cell phones and tablets, and use Wi-fi while waiting for the bus. Energomobil has developed a new product that is entirely designed and manufactured in Croatia.
Let’s hear it for the trees. Solar tree was developed as an educational product that helps us in our daily lives and encourages us to reflect on the preservation of our nature and environment. Solar tree brightens our park and it also charges computers and mobile phones as well as serves us as a Wi-Fi zone. Large capacity of solar (photovoltaic) panels that make up the tree is enough to connect additional consumers by our desire and allow citizens even greater comfort.
The range of products and innovation goes on. With the imminent launch of Total Croatia Cycling, I was intrigued by this product for example, a smart cycle stand, which has been developed for a client in Zagorje.
But there was no doubting the star of the show, presented for the first time at a trade fair, one of several premieres at the fair at Le Meridien Lav marina, which concludes this evening – the solar vehicle. Here it is in Hvar Town’s main square.

For the trade fair, the solar vehicle was presented as a mobile coffee bar, and all its functions – including the making of the free coffee on offer – were powered by the sun. A truly fabulous and innovative solution, and one which is not yet widely known around the world, so if you want to be innovative yourself… The solar vehicle, made in Croatia, is apparently not unique in the world, as there is a smaller, less powerful vehicle in Denmark, but it is certainly cutting edge. Only a few units have been sold so far in Denmark. A really exciting addition to Croatia’s solar collection.
And very easy to pack up after a hard day selling ice creams at the beach.
