A company from Virovitica creates a model Croatian hotel room.
All the furniture is made of Slavonian oak, coated with a substance which shows all the details of the wood itself. The furniture has rounded edges so guests will not get hurt by hitting a sharp edge of a closet, bed or table. It also incorporates part of the Slavonian cultural heritage, stylized symbols from the Orion pot which dates from 2600 BC and is, according to some sources, the oldest European calendar. That is how the model Croatian hotel room Historion looks like. It was created with Croatian wood, by Croatian designers and by a Croatian company, reports Večernji List on November 9, 2017.
The project was launched by the Palković company, in cooperation with designer Kruno Kovač and the Pannonian Wood Centre of Competence in Virovitica, where the model room was presented to hotel managers.
“We have created a Croatian hotel room with a signature, and its key elements are Slavonian oak, Croatian design, Croatian manufacturer, innovative approach, the implementation of cultural heritage, advanced technology and eco-friendly production process,” said Željko Palković, the creator of the idea.
The Palković company was founded in 1992 and have been producing plate-like furnishings for apartments, hotels, offices and private premises. The concept of the model hotel room has been developed for years, and they decided to finally implement it after they applied to the Agriculture Ministry’s competition for the development of new products in the wood sector. They received a grant of 120,000 kunas and invested 150,000 kunas in total.
“Hotels are increasingly leaving behind panel-like furniture and turning towards more massive furniture. We have therefore offered them a model room for hotels, which respects the prescribed Croatian standards and can be incorporated into any hotel. Also, all the elements included in the room can be later bought individually,” Palković explained.
By combining historical elements and modern technology, they wanted to send a message that the whole project was based on the Croatian cultural heritage. The central motifs are stylized symbols from the Orion pot. Seven symbols from a jar which dates back to the period of the Vučedol culture, found in Vinkovci in 1978, can be seen on certain parts of furniture and accompanying objects.
Palković says they are realists, so they had based the idea on equipping hotels with up to 50 rooms. The model room will soon be presented at prestigious hotel fairs in Germany and Italy. “The room has a rather high price, but it is not strictly defined. It is not the same if you produce one room or 40 rooms,” concluded Palković.
