The latest speeds reach more than 20 Gbit/s.
The Vipnet mobile operator has organised a presentation of 5G technology and demonstrated for the first time the fully functional 5G equipment with a data transfer rate of over 20 Gbit/s. The demonstration also included four examples of the application of 5G technology, reports Večernji List on July 16, 2018.
Advanced coverage is particularly beneficial on the sea where there is no dense base station network. The latest 5G technology can also be used in medicine, since it makes possible to perform surgeries with remote control of surgery robots through VR technologies, but more importantly, with the use of a special robotic hand which provides surgeons with the ability to receive feedback sensations, similar to conditions in surgeries performed directly on patients. Autonomous vehicles, wireless VR gaming, and 360-degree video streaming from any remote location are just some of the other 5G technology applications.
“Vipnet regularly demonstrates its achievements in the implementation of 5G technology. We are particularly proud with this demonstration in which we have achieved speeds higher than 20 Gbps in a live 5G network, which is an absolute speed record in the mobile segment in Croatia. In the future, the demonstrated speeds and capacities of the 5G technology will enable gigabit speeds throughout Croatia, which is the basic prerequisite for digitization, equal development of all regions and global competitiveness,” said Tomislav Makar, managing director of Vipnet’s technical department.
Croatian Telecom, Vipnet’s main market competitor, also often makes announcements about the implementation of latest 5G technology. The race for primacy in technological achievements is important for telecoms, and the society can only benefit from it.
