July the 19th, 2025 – The Makarska tourism results thus far in 2025 have been excellent, even after the popular Central Dalmatian beach destination turned away from overtourism.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, The Mayor of Makarska, Zoran Paunović, was a recent guest on N1 television, where he revealed more about the excellent Makarska tourism results so far this year, even after it turned its back on mass tourism.
“The season so far is somewhat better than expected across Makarska, and that was especially the case back during the pre-season period, from the first to the end of June. We’ve been recording an approximate ten percent increase in overnight stays. We can already see that the beginning of July is also better,” Mayor Paunović began.

“I think that this is mainly the result of what we’ve been busy implementing over the last four years, if I’m allowed to brag a little bit. Unlike the rest of Dalmatia and the situation with mass tourism, we were actually the first city that indicated a clear turn away from that. In Makarska, we’ve strategically opted for specific forms of tourism and have been doing that for some time. We invested mostly in the pre-season and now we’re clearly seeing the results, we can see that we are on the right track,” the mayor added.
“For example, May is Makarka’s month of gastronomy, so during that time, we work to invest in events that attract guests who are oriented towards gastronomy, trying out fine wines, etc. May was well-booked for us, and then in June, we decided to make it the month of sports. We organised two major sports events – the women’s WTA tournament and the European Rugby 7s Championship. Athletes come to Makarska for training and people who are motivated by sports tourism follow. We’ve been recording an increase in overnight stays in our hotels, higher-quality accommodation facilities, and higher-class private apartments. We see that the direction we are heading in is a good one.
The idea for the season itself, meaning the two main summer months of July and August, is to maintain the same, if not lower, level of guests, we are not investing too much in marketing. We’ve got what we need,” concluded the mayor on the topic of Makarska and its excellent tourism results for 2025 so far.
