February the 15th, 2024 – Croatian entrepreneur Mate Rimac has met with his “favourite crash test dummy”, British TV personality and car enthusiast, Richard Hammond.
As Mate Rimac posted on his personal Facebook profile, the pair have met once again in Canada, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
Richard Hammond, loved by Brits for his time on the hit TV car show Top Gear, (in)famously crashed Mate Rimac’s Concept One hypercar several years ago. In June 2017, Hammond crashed the vehicle during filming for The Grand Tour in Switzerland. Hammond remained conscious throughout the entire event, which saw the car run off the road, go at full speed down a hill and eventually ended upside down over 100 metres from the road itself.
“I remember thinking, oh God, I’m going to die,” recalled Hammond of the event which scarred him both physically and psychologically. He was airlifted to hospital following the devastating crash which was witnessed by both James May and Jeremy Clarkson, both of whom described a feeling of “sickening horror” and weak knees at seeing Hammond’s Rimac Concept One crash play out in front of them.
“Look who I’ve found in Canada! Our favourite crash test dummy. Yes, he did drive the Nevera. And no, he did not crash” wrote Mate Rimac on social media.
