A treat in store for wine lovers in Split on Wednesday, as Hvar’s very own Master of Wine Jo Ahearne will be taking the ferry from Stari Grad to present her wines at Wine and Cheese Bar Paradox.
Paradox, the first wine bar in Split, can be credited with doing much to improve the wine culture in the town, and a key part of its offering has been regular tastings from some of Croatia’s top wine makers.
I have got to know Jo well in the few years she has been living on Hvar, and apart from her vast knowledge about wine, she is a great speaker and great fun, and more than happy to talk about the merits of West Ham United with anyone who will listen.
The first Master of Wine ever to make wine in Croatia, Jo’s first product was a rosé from indigenous Hvar variety, Darnekusa. She has since added a gorgeous Plavac Mali and two whites to her range.
